How Career-Driven Business Guys Become Christ-Focused Spiritual Men: Studies in the Life of Jacob
Jacob had plans, and they didn’t look anything like God’s plans. He built success off deceit and shady business deals. In the end, his business model only hurt him. He had to learn through a life-long series of challenges that God’s plans were better than his plans. Come and join us as we unpack how God turned a cheating business dealer into a spiritual patriarch... and how God can do this in our lives.

Backpacking

Purpose: To share time together with other CBC men; share a challenge together and grow together in our faith; to encourage each other to stay in the game and make an impact in our families and communities. To share being in a beautiful place, maybe climb a mountain or two, hike a few dozen miles and catch a few fish!

Spiritual Content: Each hike is lead by a CBC leader who facilitates daily devotion and study in the Word, which challenges men to grow in the areas most needed.

Check back with us summer of 2015 to get a schedule for the next Men's Ministry Backpacking Trip.

Motorcycling

CBC Bikers unite!

We have a lot of bikers at CBC with varying interest. Duel sports are growing in popularity enjoying some forest service roads as well as some dirt trails. Sport touring like to kick it up a notch, and we have some long distance riders who enjoy 500 plus mile day ride.

Send us your feedback and we’ll join together like-minded folks. That’s that we’re all about where all can get out enjoying their style and connect with other CBC bikers. And if you have an interest in helping lead rides let us know.

Men's Resources

Knowing God, JI Packer

This is a book for many of the men at Crossroads who have a firm grasp of their faith, and are looking for guidance on how to grow a deeper relationship with God. One of the keys is gaining a better understanding of God, and this book offers an excellent starting point for that journey. It strikes a good balance between being too technical and too simplistic. In short, if you want a deeper relationship with God, you have to know Him.

Trusting God Even When it Hurts, Jerry Bridges

This is a short read to encourage God's people by demonstrating from Scripture that God is in control of their lives, that he does indeed love them, and that he works out all circumstances in their lives for their ultimate good (Romans 8:28). If God is in control of our lives, then we should trust Him in all circumstances, including when we are going through tough times.

Who You are When No One’s Looking, Bill Hybels

This is a good book for men who find themselves of substantially different character in those situations where no one is looking. For men, this can include things such as having an affair outside of their marriage, or looking at pornography when no one else is around. It is a short read that gives us the courage to be at our best at all times, even when no one else is looking.

Love and Respect, Emerson Eggerichs

Emerson Eggerichs conducted a weekend conference at CBC several years ago. The entire conference was based around the premise that as men we are to love our wives and as women we are to respect our husbands (Ephesians 5:33). The book goes to great length to describe how this can be accomplished, and in particular, is a great read for those who did not attend this conference.

The Master Plan of Evangelism, Robert E Coleman

This short read examines in depth how Christ went about evangelizing. Parts of this book were studied and discussed on a CBC backpacking trip several years ago. It is not a guidebook or course or technique, but rather it simply looks at the Bible and how Christ evangelized. This is an excellent read in conjunction with the course Tactics for Defending the Faith, which the ABF’s and Small Groups did in 2012 at Crossroads.

The Gospel for Real Life, Jerry Bridges

This short book was the topic for discussion on a CBC kayaking trip several years ago. It is an excellent book for those men who have a rudimentary understanding of basic Christian doctrine, but are looking for a better understanding of the fundamentals of the Christian faith.

The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren

This book will probably resonate best with those men who are struggling to understand why they are here, and what God's plan is for them. We are made by God and for God, and when we have a better understanding for that, much of our life can be brought into the proper biblical respective.

The Case for a Creator, Lee Strobel

This is an excellent book for those men in the sciences who are attempting to reconcile their scientific understanding with the words of the Bible. Men will discover how recent discoveries from cosmology, cellular biology, DNA research, astronomy, physics and human consciousness are increasingly pointing to the role of God in creation. For those who have studied the creation account in Genesis in detail, this is a must read.

The Case for Christ, Lee Strobel

Most men at Crossroads do not need convincing evidence for Jesus Christ. However, as we enter into conversations with nonbelievers, is important to have a good grasp of the evidence, both scientific and otherwise, that points to Christ and what the Bible says about Him.

Eternal Impact, Phil Downer

Phil Downer spoke to the men at Crossroads several years ago at a weekend conference. If you are looking to enter into a small group setting with one or two other CBC men, this might be a book well worth reading. Chuck Swindoll in his article Two are Better than One-The Importance of Cultivating Lasting Friendships speaks to the importance of cultivating close friendships. This book reinforces that concept and explains how one can go about cultivating these friendships in a Christ like way, so as to make a real impact in the life of another person.

Pastor Jim Wright

I was made aware of some resources that I would like to relay on to you. We hear that 70% of men struggle at some point with on-line pornography and many of those men want out! They are frustrated by this kind of behavior and really desire a plan to walk out of a sin that has been crippling them. They are ready to break free.

If this is true of you, check this out. Here are a couple of suggestions:

  • Be in prayer and commit to God your desire to be cleansed and walk free of pornography.
  • Be in touch with Men’s Ministry as to how we can support your commitment to live as a man of purity.
  • Men’s ministry has groups to help men and support them in the walk with Christ. Let us know, and we’ll link you up!
